God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
In this teaching, I just want to focus on a particular aspect of God's word, the last verse above says, 'be still and know that I am God' (verse10). I was teaching some people some time ago and we came across a verse of scripture that was really referring to women, but it is not just women that are to apply this virtue, and that is the art of being still, and knowing that God is God, the scripture is in 1 timothy chapter 2 and it talked about how he wanted women to be silent, it is a very famous scripture that tells a woman to be silent and not usurp authority, and learn, etcetera. I was just telling them that that scripture is not trying to insult the woman or to put her down, but there is a virtue there that we need to take advantage of. What the bible is saying there is the same thing he is saying over in 1 peter chapter 3 that, a meek and a quiet spirit is of great price in the sight of God, and that is the same thing he is saying here, 'be still and know that I am God'.
When I was talking about the definition of a meek and a quiet spirit, I said it is the ability to be quiet, to be still, there was a teaching reverend taught the other time and he said what that literally means is to 'keep your seat'. It is the ability to keep your seat and to avoid panicking. In the psalm we read above, it talks about how the earth might have been removed, the mountains might have been carried into the midst of the sea, coarse and confusion going around, but '…therefore will not we fear…' because God is our God, Amen. I want you to just follow along with me and imagine what the scripture is saying here. In verse 6 it even says the heathen raged to the point that the kingdoms were moved, but then it says in verse 4 that there is a river the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God. Reverend was talking about the ministry of the Holy Spirit to us, and this year, I was led to start listening to some teachings talking about hearing from God, and some people in my office were surprised to hear that reverend never listened to that message, and he also came and started preaching about listening to the Holy Spirit, he was teaching almost word for word of what Keith Moore was teaching there and they assumed he had listened to that message when it was just my sister and I that had listened to that message, I really felt led to spend more time, studying afresh how to hear from God, and when he was talking about the ministry of the Holy Spirit to us, he talked about it being as a well and it being as a river, and in this psalm, it says that, '… there is a river…' the river here, is a symbol and it stands for the Holy Spirit, so in the midst of trouble, in the midst of calamity of coarse or catastrophe, the Holy Spirit is always there. It says it makes glad the city of God. The river is a type for the Holy Spirit, when we talk about the Holy Spirit we are not talking about 'it' but we are talking about 'Him', so He makes us glad.
The Holy Spirit is the solution in time of trouble, sometimes we feel I have been sitting here, born again for years, I do not understand what you are talking about, I have not experienced this ministry of the Holy Spirit, this comfort you are talking about, I have not experienced it, I have not heard about it, I have had tough times and I barely came out of it, this comfort you are talking about, this advocacy and answer and hearing from God you are talking about, what are you saying? I hardly hear from God if ever. But reverend said the door way into it is speaking in tongues. This wisdom that is from above the bible says it is easy to be entreated, just come and learn how to do it, it is not difficult, my real heart's desire is for people to understand that fellowship and communion with God is not difficult, it is not something far fetched, it is not far away from you, it is not something that is hard to be grasped, it is real, it is close, he is close and he is always talking you can hear from him continually.
In the book of judges, the bible says that something happened with Samson and the philistines, and they were angry with him and were looking for him and, and they found him and tied him up and put him in the valley of Lehi, the place called the valley of the jaw bone, and the bible says a thousand philistines roared against him, and reverend will always tell us that he does not believe that this famous Samson that was so noted for famous works of strength, was looking like the great Kali, or Hawk Hogan, or The rock in those days, it was all about the anointing (see Judges 15 ). If a thousand philistines should rush the great Kali, he would not be able to overpower them, he may decide to down, five or six at a goal, but we are talking about a thousand here, it is all about the anointing, the supernatural realm.
No matter how you want to lean on your flesh, or the flesh, there are situations and circumstances the devil will bring before you, that there is no way, no matter how wise and smart you think you are and you've been wrangling yourself out of tough spots before, that there is just no way out if not something supernatural should happen at that time or it will be the end of that matter. That is his plan, if you lean on the flesh this year, saying ' oh it is just a little matter, let me just use my skills, my smartness and get out of it, let me just use the strength of my arm', he will allow you to continually use the strength of your arm and get used to it until he has you where he wants you and then he brings the one that you cannot stand, and that is the case with sickness, poverty, and any situation. The bible says that a thousand philistines roared against Samson then the anointing came upon him and he used the jaw bone of an ass, a thousand philistines, anytime I read and meditate on that story, it gives me that understanding of victory, because I have the anointing, the spirit of God lives on the inside of me, I have the victory, and we know that later on in life Samson went over to one of the cities of the philistines, and met Delilah, she dealt with him and he lost his anointing, she cut his hair, and of course after successfully getting to the secret of his strength, she called out again, 'Samson, Samson, the philistines are upon you' and really the philistines were upon him, and the bible says he got up and said 'I will go out as before, as usual' but he wilst not that the Spirit of the Lord this time around had departed from him, and nothing could be done, that was the fall of Samson (see Judges16).
You know the wonderful thing that makes me glad is that the bible says in our own covenant, the Spirit of God will never leave us, there is no way, nothing I will do, no mistake I will make that will make Him leave me. So it is not possible for you to stand in any situation, be any where and say God has left me, God has abandoned me, you know I hear some people say things like that especially when something bad has happened, they say, 'oh God, why have you abandoned me?' it is not possible. The other day we read where Jesus was on the cross and he said, 'my God, my God, why have thou forsaken me?' and I wrote in bracket in red in my computer, 'He forsook him so that He will never forsake me', ever! We live in an age where we have watered down words; in fact the very meanings of words have changed. The meaning of eternity still remains intact, forever means forever, halleluiah, He will never leave us, this age, this life will pass, He will still be with us, we will enter the millennial reign of Christ, he will still be with us, after that, He will still be with us, the judgements will come and pass, he will still be with us, amen, and still being with us, He will still remain the same Holy Spirit as from the beginning because He is the same, He remains the same, He doesn't change, His ministry to us remains the same.
This year, if there is anything you ought to ensure that you are an expert at, or that you are good at, it should be being close to the Holy Spirit, hearing from God, taking advantage of His presence and His ministry. Let everyone here be able to say I speak to the Lord, I hear from God. As Keith Moore said, start by making your confession, saying, 'I hear from God, I am His sheep, He is my shepherd, I know His voice, I am following His voice, a strangers voice I will not follow, it is His voice that I will follow'. Make your confession, and listen to your spirit, practice, listen to tapes, read books, read your bible, go and get teachings, don't just sit there, grab a man of God, there are available to you, tell them to teach you what you do not understand, let them explain to you, and expound the word of God to you ask them how do you hear from God, hoe does He deal with you?. Don't just sit there and say, 'okay we have entered the new year I am hoping that things will go well', a lot of us are just hoping that things will go well this year, instead of taking the actual steps to make sure, do you know you can make sure? You can be sure you will experience victory through out till December. I am not saying that the philistines will not roar against you, but you can be sure that whether it is a thousand or two thousand philistines, with the jaw bone of an ass and an anointing upon you, you will slay those thousands, because it is the anointing.
The bible says he will make glad the city of God, He will make you glad, you have this thing, take it, its yours, He is with you forever, the Holy Spirit Himself, He is a person, and the Bible says he has emotions and He wants to be fellowshipped with, have a relationship with Him, some of us treat Him like an 'it' when He is actually a 'Him', He is a 'Him', He has a personality, begin to take advantage, speak in tongues, take advantage of His presence and of His ministry to you.
